Hormones do have an impact on overeating…yup.

I find this fascinating. Dieting damages CCK (cholecystokinin). CCK is a gut hormone that is released after a meal to convey feelings of fullness. It helps control both digestion and appetite. It cues satiety in the brain.

When dieting too hard, leptin levels drop. CCK also drops as Leptin controls it and this causes the satiety mechanism to become disrupted. The result is eating way beyond feeling full and hungry.

When the satiety centre becomes interrupted, the body responds as if food may never be available again. The body’s response is…hmmm…I think I better eat some more…and more…. and more.

So often, it’s not about self-control at all, it is actually about hormones. After dieting for a long period of time, the desire to overeat can become very real.

TRYING SO HARD!!
It is quite sad that trying so hard can often result in making things even harder. As a competition coach, I see this often. Low calorie diets and loads of cardio may create a ripped body but doing this long term damages metabolism, hormones and can create awful rebound weight gain.

Over-dieting, restricting carbohydrates and excessive cardio can actually be a contributing factor to long-term weight gain. Adopting this strategy down regulates thyroid function, reduces thyroid hormone T3, slows metabolic rate and disrupts hormonal balance.

THE GOOD NEWS.
There is a better way. Dieting, contest prep and getting into fabulous shape does not need to be hard or punishing.
